A fabulous guilloche enamel diamond locket made by Victor Mayer in the late 20th Century (Circa 1980). The design is inspired by Fabergé and features a shimmering ocean-blue guilloche enamel front, etched with an intricate wave pattern, that illuminates as it catches the light. It’s overlaid with a crosshatch, rope netting, dotted with fourteen twinkling brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.56ct total).
Victor Mayer is named after its founder, a talented businessman, artist and designer, who was based in Germany, from 1857 – 1946. He was renowned for his opulent guilloche enamel work, quality craftsmanship and innovative design, which the company continues to produce to this day. One of their more significant collections came in the 1980s and was heavily influenced by Fabergé design and named “Spirit of Fabergé”. Impressed by their work, the Fabergé company later appointed them as their official work master, bringing global attention once more to the work of Victor Mayer.
The lockets shell is fashioned in 14ct yellow gold which has developed a lovely patina over time and features a rope edge border and loop at the top, which has a safety catch at the back to keep it securely locked. It’s complete with windows and rims within, backed with a burgundy fabric.
This is a rare and highly collectable piece, exhibiting exceptional workmanship by a celebrated designer. It’s complete with Victor Mayer’s mark of on the back and import hallmarks on the top of the bale, indicating it was later assayed in London in 1989.
